History of Rajashree S.M. Memorial Senior Secondary School
..........................................................................................................................
Rajashree S.M. Memorial Senior Secondary School was established in 1995 and is run by S.M. Memorial Trust formed under the Trust Registration Act on 15 th March,1995.

While teaching at Hong Kong and close to retiring and returning to her native state of Kerala, Smt. Lakshmi Bhasi felt the need to set up an institution in memory of her parents, Sri. Sankunny Panicker and Smt.Madhavi Amma. Her philosophy was and remains that it was only because of their support and encouragement, that she was able to achieve what she had achieved, and in return, she wanted them to be remembered for eternity and what better way could this be possible than setting up an educational institution in their memory.

S.M Memorial Trust was established in their memory and honor.

The school began in a humble residence in Ernakulam essentially as a play school for small children based on Smt. Lakshmi Bhasi's keen desire to impart a novel and unique method of teaching based on her exposure and experience in Hong Kong, where she taught for close to 20 years. Additionally, as luck would have it, she was fortunate enough to be in a position to bring with her from Hong Kong to India, a wide variety of equipment which she would ultimately use in her quest to create an institution which would eventually be one of its kind.

Starting with a meagre strength of roughly 10 students at the play group age bracket she realized the potential for the institution to grow and decided that it would not be feasible to go ahead with her expansion plans while being located at Ernakulam. Thus the idea to move out of the center city to the suburbs came about and Rajashree soon moved to Thottakkatukara at Aluva, once again functioning out of a rented building while plans were under way for the purchase of the school's own premises. Rajashree now has more than 1000 students from the play Group, right up to Class XII.

What eventually turned out to be the permanent location of Rajashree school at East Kadungaloor at Aluva, where it is located at present was nothing more than a barren area of paddy field measuring about 3 acres. This was purchased by the Trust and the transformation from barren paddy field, to the serene site for a full-fledged institution commenced. Initially, construction of buildings and infrastructure for the play school began and once this was completed, the play school shifted from Thottakkatukara to East Kadungaloor. The foundation stone for the new premises was laid on 17th November, 1996, by Mr. K.B Menon, who is a Senior Trustee and an avid pillar of support for the cause that Rajashree School stood and still stands for today.

Subsequently, each year saw the construction of the infrastructure for absorbing students into a higher class and has at the moment reached the Class XII level where five batches have already graduated. Construction is under full swing for providing infrastructure till Class XII and is expected to be completed with the course of a year, consequent to which Rajashree S.M.M School will be in a position to provide education right from the toddler stage till Class XII. Moreover, a multi-dimensional curriculum has been devised giving equal attention and importance to both academic achievements and extra-curricular activities beyond the classroom. Teachers are selected after stringent review and evaluation by the Staff Selection Committee to ensure that no effort or stone is left unturned to guarantee that only the perfect candidate is selected, keeping in mind the students and the particular subject concerned.

In the meantime, Rajashree obtained affiliation to the C.B.S.E. Board after stringent inspections and evaluation by the Board officials concluded that Rajashree was indeed fit for the level required to be affiliated to the C.B.S.E Board. The school has acquired a fleet of 9 buses and continues to be prepared to expand the fleet as and when necessary.

The principle at Rajashree is that nothing should be spared in the name of quality education and to achieve this purpose, standards prescribed by the Board are followed and implemented judiciously and punctually.

Smt. Lakshmi Bhasi's dream has turned to reality, but the journey was not without its fair share of skeptics, critics, obstacles, difficulties and at times, a sense of desperation at what appeared to be the unattainable at hand. It was during these turbulent times that Smt. Lakshmi Bhasi reposed all her faith in her parents to guide her through the rough seas, and sure enough, she has emerged true to her dream and destiny while facing all types of opposition and hurdles.

Rajashree S.M.M School has made a mark for itself not only in the vicinity of Aluva, but the whole of Kerala. The school has not 'modeled' itself on any set standards prevailing in most institutions today, but rather, has taken a unique approach in teaching methods, which are now being recognized by other institutions.

It is this humble and inconsequential origin and her vision that Smt. Lakshmi Bhasi had that Rajashree S.M.M School has matured to what it is today and earned the name and respect that it commands along with the continued dedication and sincerity of the staff and management coupled with the support of parents and the students themselves.

Rajashree S.M.M School has now become a 'recognized face' amongst institutions and the name itself stands for a certain level of quality, dedication and novelty.

This reputation can only see the institution scale even greater heights.
